About Alcohol & Drug Awareness Council – Lufkin
The Alcohol & Drug Awareness Council offers intervention, prevention, recovery support, and counseling for substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders through several facilities in Texas. One of the outpatient service centers is on North Raguet in Lufkin, Texas. The programs offered through the council are nonclinical treatment services.
The adult outpatient services are for men and women 18 years of age and up. The program includes treatment for significant others as well as families. You can join the program if you don’t need medical detox, are past the earliest stages of your substance use, and an inpatient program isn’t appropriate for you. If you’ve gone through detox and been stabilized in another program, you’re still eligible for the council’s program.
The outpatient program includes group sessions and individual therapy. The program length is three to six months depending on your situation. You’ll have one to two therapy groups or education groups per week. They also give you one to two individual therapy sessions per month. You’ll have regular assessments to determine how long you should stay in the program. Some people are discharged early because they meet the discharge criteria sooner than expected.
The youth outpatient services are for youth 13 to 17 years of age. Some young adults up to age 21 may also be eligible for the program depending on their developmental history and needs. The youth program is also a 3-6 month program based on the client’s progress. As with the adult program, youths have regular assessments to determine their progress. They’ll have one to two individual therapy sessions per month in addition to weekly education and group therapy.
The youth program includes a family education program that family members are encouraged to attend. There are two 90 minute sessions per month for family members with relatives in the program. There are also four family home visits for youth in the cannabis treatment program. The visits involve the family and promote wellness by following the program curriculum.
