About Ascensa Health – Atlanta
Ascensa Health (formerly St. Jude’s Recovery Center) helps adults overcome substance use issues and co-occurring disorders via a continuum of care encompassing inpatient detox, residential rehab and outpatient therapy.
Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is integrated across all levels of care to promote lasting abstinence, particularly for folks dealing with opioid use issues. MAT is a proven method that uses FDA-approved meds to manage painful withdrawal symptoms and curb physiological cravings.
The most unique thing about Ascensa Health is that their recovery programs target individuals experiencing homelessness and low-income individuals who are typically uninsured or underinsured. State funding is available to cover the cost of recovery for these individuals. The facility has a deep-rooted commitment to serving these communities in Atlanta.
Most people will begin their healing journey in this facility with inpatient detoxification following diagnostic assessment and treatment planning. Ascensa Health offers subacute withdrawal management in a 24-bed detox unit for patients experiencing acute withdrawal symptoms that require 24/7 medical supervision in a nonrestrictive setting.
The program also serves folks who are intoxicated or just seeking structured space to break their cycle of substance dependence. During the detox procedure, you’ll be monitored for withdrawal symptoms by skilled clinicians. These experts will administer FDA-approved meds to help you manage painful withdrawal symptoms. The goal is to make your withdrawal journey as painless as possible. You’ll also enjoy nutritious meals, proper hydration and plenty of rest to restore your energy. The procedure may last from a day to up to 21 days. Upon stabilization, clients are referred to the next level of care. This may be either within the Ascensa Health network or another community provider.
Clients who choose to continue their recovery journey within the Ascensa Health network may transition to either residential or outpatient care. Ascensa Health boasts a modern and fully equipped 56-bed residential facility for men and an 18-bed facility for women.
These facilities offer residents a safe space to heal through active participation in structured therapeutic activities under expert guidance. This program lasts between 60 and 90 days. You’ll work with the care team to create a personalized care plan that guides your recovery while living onsite. The program involves intense group and individual therapy rooted in proven practices like cognitive behavioral techniques.
Emphasis is on developing practical skills that encourage sobriety and prevent relapse. Groups include psychoeducation, spirituality and life skills training groups. I particularly like the specialized employment support groups. This offers resume building and interview skills workshop, financial literacy education and basic computer training.
Clients are also taught social skills to help them thrive in the workplace and provided with transportation assistance for job search. They basically prepare you not just to land a job once you transition to independent living in the community but also to maintain that job and build a lucrative career path.
The program also offers health and wellness support to ensure holistic healing. Residents benefit from integrated healthcare services that enable them to receive primary medical assessment, nutritional education and infectious disease (HIV & Hep C) testing alongside prevention education.
The wraparound program includes family counseling, education and events as well as case management. Your case manager will assist with job placement and securing affordable housing as you prepare to rejoin the community. Ascensa Health provides ongoing support with groups and supportive medication available to help you maintain stability as you move forward. Clients who wish to continue their healing journey may yet step down to the flexible outpatient program.
