About Baystate Medical Center – Adult Psychiatric Treatment – Springfield
Springfield, Massachusetts is the home of the Basketball Hall of Fame and is known as the birthplace of the sport. The city is also home to Baystate Medical Center, which offers comprehensive treatment services for many conditions. The center is on Chestnut Street. Additionally, they have an adult psychiatric treatment unit for short term specialized treatment such as substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health illnesses. The medical center accepts insurance for many providers, including some Medicare plans.
The hospital is only two miles from the Connecticut RiverWalk and Bikeway, an almost four mile path along the riverfront. The path offers beautiful views of the river, Memorial Bridge, and the Springfield skyline. The park is a beautiful place to come during your recovery.
The inpatient unit at the hospital provides short term care for adults with an SUD, mental health crisis or dual diagnosis. A multidisciplinary team of physicians, psychiatrists, nurses, and psychiatric social workers use a problem oriented treatment approach customized to your needs.
While an inpatient, you’ll participate in group, individual, and family therapy. After a psychiatric assessment, you may be given psychopharmacological medication which will be overseen by the psychiatrist.
During your stay, you may have onsite neuropsychological testing. Testing examines different areas of thinking such as memory, language, executive skills, attention, behavior, and processing speed. Drugs take a toll on some cognitive abilities. With the results, neuropsychologists can recommend treatments to improve the quality of your life.
The EMPOWER program is for pregnant women with substance use disorders. The program connects women with neonatal care. A social worker partners with your OB/GYN and other community providers to enhance positive outcomes for pregnancy.
Additionally, the program allows families to have their babies with them after birth. Rooming in with their moms has been shown to reduce withdrawal symptoms in babies and help keep families together. You and your baby will be fully monitored and supported after delivery and postpartum.
