They may provide users with clean syringes, safe consumption spaces, overdose education and access to health resources as part of their harm reduction addiction strategy during street outreach. This minimizes the risk associated with substance use while promoting health and safety. The client will then receive addiction treatment as part of their transition to a safer and more stable environment upon getting sheltered in one of BRC’s 3,000 housing units. BRC’s comprehensive mental health support and treatment prioritize severely and persistently mentally ill clients.
Some clients have co occurring substance abuse problems. Treatment usually involves proven therapeutic practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviews and more. Clients also participate in wellness activities like exercises, indoor recreation and nutritious meals. The program may involve psychiatric assessment, care coordination and crisis and medication management. Comments from past clients reflect a mixed experience.
