About Coastal Behavioral Healthcare Compass Center – Punta Gorda
Coastal Behavioral Healthcare Compass Center was located in Punta Gorda, Florida. This center provided services to adolescent and teen boys who were struggling with their mental health, exhibited at risk behaviors, or were working through a substance use disorder.
In 2020, this center merged with First Step of Sarasota, expanding the services they offered to children and families throughout the community. Following the merger, Coastal Behavioral Healthcare Compass Center’s operations subsided and their Punta Gorda location closed permanently.
When they were open, they had a strong focus on helping provide residents throughout the region with quality, evidence based addiction recovery services as adults and others were supported through the Coastal Behavioral Healthcare Network.
All children exhibiting at risk behaviors, struggling with substance use, or have a co-occurring mental health struggle require specific treatments that address more than just their health needs. At the core of treatment at the Coastal Behavioral Health Care Compass Center was age-appropriate programming for children aged 13 to 17 that addressed those needs.
Learning how to navigate social settings, how to identify triggers, and knowing which skills to use in different circumstances can significantly reduce chances of relapse or engage in those at risky behaviors. These concepts and others were covered at the Compass Center.
Parents would have found the program to be well structured and tailored to their child’s developmental needs. There were classes that addressed anger issues and other negative thinking patterns. Cognitive behavioral therapies were used and general recreational and mindfulness therapies would have been employed as well.
Depending on your circumstances, you would have been supported by medication assisted treatment using Vivitrol through the Coastal Behavioral Healthcare network. This treatment was a first step for individuals who had chronic or severe chemical dependencies. It helped you to manage cravings after detox so that you could focus on therapies and counseling.
