The Hundred Acre Homestead was a private mental health therapy provider in Worcester, Vermont. It provided clients with residential treatment in a farm setting on 100 acres of land. Their approach incorporated the changing of the seasons into treatment with certain farm activities only available during specific seasons.
The Hundred Acre Homestead combined traditional therapy and psychiatric care with elements of a working farm. Depending on the season, clients could tend to animals and crops as a therapeutic activity. There was also an art studio and plenty of recreational and outdoor activities to promote relaxation and healing.
Their underlying philosophy stated that a sense of peace was possible when you found a sense of purpose. That’s why their holistic focus had a strong emphasis on working and living in nature. What made this more special was the small number of clients they worked with at one time. Fewer people at once meant it was easier for individuals to form support networks.
