About MCCA – Bridgeport – Bridgeport

Midwestern Connecticut Council of Alcoholism (MCCA) has been helping folks in western Connecticut overcome substance use challenges for over 50 years. This location in Bridgeport, Connecticut is among their seven outpatient clinics. Those struggling with dually diagnosed mental health and substance use conditions are provided the support they need to heal as well.

Outpatient care is flexible, making it easy to continue work or school during treatment. They offer medication assisted treatment (MAT) and general and intensive outpatient programs (IOP). Therapy is mainly delivered in a group setting, although you will also receive individual counseling. Emphasis is on building healthy coping skills to support sober living and prevent relapse. Most of the therapy groups are gender specific and trauma informed. This helps you feel safe while receiving the support that fits your needs.

They have a specialized early intervention group where you can learn how to recognize unhealthy drug and alcohol use. This helps you make changes before it becomes an issue. The outpatient programming also includes anger management classes and specialized relapse prevention groups to help you build strategies to avoid relapsing.

A particularly unique service here is their Spanish IOP, where therapy, education and support are provided in Spanish. This prevents language and cultural barriers from hindering recovery.

You’ll benefit from their MAT program if you’re dealing with opioid use or alcoholism. MAT uses counseling alongside approved medication to help you reach long term recovery. They can prescribe either Suboxone, Naltrexone, Vivitrol or Subutex. Having multiple options enables them to tailor the medicines to your unique needs.

The medications curb cravings and reduce withdrawal symptoms. You’ll also receive therapy to tackle the underlying issues that led to your substance use. This combined approach addresses both physical and psychological issues , which is a “whole person” approach to healing.

Bridgeport is about 20 miles southwest of New Haven. The Seaside Park is located 2 miles away from the clinic. This large waterfront park has great beaches and recreational space, which can be an ideal way to relax and destress before or after treatment.
