About MCCA – New Haven – New Haven
Midwestern Connecticut Council on Alcoholism is an organization that provides substance abuse prevention and treatment services in New Haven, Connecticut. Their New Haven Outpatient Clinic offers outpatient programs that focus on helping clients recognize their triggers and create positive changes that lead to a healthier lifestyle.
The program is best for individuals who can’t do residential treatment due to family and work obligations. The facility gives clients the flexibility of attending group sessions during the day or at night. Clients will participate in three-hour sessions three times a week. Some of the issues that will be addressed in these groups include anger management and relapse prevention.
It’s not uncommon for clients with anger issues to use substances to relieve their symptoms. Counselors at New Haven Outpatient Clinic can teach clients how to control their anger through learning stress management and developing coping skills. Relapse prevention is a behavioral approach that helps clients learn the situations that increase their risk of relapsing. Counselors can guide clients on relapse prevention skills such as self-care and mindfulness meditation that can help with long-term recovery.
Group sessions may cover these topics along with giving clients a chance to learn from each other on how to better maintain their sobriety. Additional services available at this clinic are a pre-trial intervention program for clients incarcerated for DUI and the Better Choice Gambling Program for individuals with gambling addictions. A great thing about this location is that it offers a Spanish-speaking intensive outpatient program for clients who speak Spanish.
