About New Life for Girls – Dover
New Life for Girls is a comprehensive, Christian residential program for those who are struggling with life controlling problems such as drug and alcohol addiction, eating disorders, and sexual abuse issues. They are located in Dover, Pennsylvania.
New Life for Girls offers residential treatment for women that includes individual counseling and life skills training.
The residential program at a New Life for Girls supports women, mothers, and their children. This program is broken down into three key phases that include an introduction to a new way of living, training on how to deal with life’s challenges, and re-entry back into society. This is a long term rehabilitation process that takes over a year to complete for most people. Counseling, daily bible classes, spiritual retreat time, and exploring the root cause of addiction are important first elements of this program. As time goes on and stability is created, giving back and focusing on education, work, and contributing to society is emphasized. Additional areas of focus include life skills classes, parenting skills training, nutrition classes, health education, empowerment seminars, post abortion and sexual abuse programming, daily chapel services, and prison ministry outreach.
Individual therapy creates the space to explore the psychological challenges associated with addiction. With the help of a professional, individuals are given the space and direction to talk about and process their emotions. Often this includes unresolved trauma, anger, depression, anxiety, and the need for more control or autonomy in life.
Life skills training involves supporting individuals in becoming adept at handling the challenges of life in a healthy manner. Time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication are common topics in life skills training classes. To succeed after treatment, it’s important to be able to function well in society and feel a sense of empowerment in choices and actions.
