About Odyssey House – Foxhurst
Located in a commercial corner of the Bronx, New York, the Odyssey House has a variety of outpatient programs to fit your needs and lifestyle. Offering medication assisted treatment (MAT) with naltrexone and integrated care for co-occurring mental health and substance use issues, their individual, group, and family therapies focus on subjects like relapse prevention and anger management. They also provide assistance with building parenting skills, job counseling, and housing support. All staff members are trained in opioid overdose prevention techniques. There is no age limit to their services.
Specifically for teens and young adults is the Bronx Urban Youth Initiative (BUY-IN). This is a substance use treatment program for youth and their families. Funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), this free program rewards positive behaviors and sobriety to facilitate lifestyle changes.
For mothers with children, Odyssey House offers daycare licensed by the New York Department of Health and an Early Head Start preschool program. In addition to counseling, they provide onsite medical care and pediatric services. They also feature Adult Basic Education and High School Equivalency (HSE/TASC) test prep.
Their Recovery Community and Outreach Center (RCOC) is designed to supplement their outpatient programs in a community based, nonclinical setting. Through peer led, gender separated support groups, they concentrate their attention on four domains of recovery: health, home, purpose, and community. They also have a LGBTQ specific group.
Other activities include yoga and Afro-Caribbean dance, book clubs and movie nights, and knitting classes. There’s an onsite computer lab if you want to write your resume or learn computer skills. Seasonal activities and sober parties are hosted. Or, you can check out Lyons Square Playground or the Bronx River beyond that.
