About OpenDoors – Providence
Open Doors is located in Providence, Rhode Island. This organization provides compassionate and comprehensive care to often marginalized individuals in the community, including incarcerated individuals.
The programs here are designed to help you transition from life behind bars into being a productive member of society. Their programs are rooted in holistic practices so you can build relevant recovery skills to help you succeed.
One of the ways you’ll be supported here is through their vocational efforts, offered via their employment program. You’ll learn job readiness skills and can even put those skills to practice through their Open Doors Trucking Company.
This allows you to work toward sustainable and gainful employment while continuing to receive care to help you overcome addiction struggles that have impacted your life.
Another service offered through Open Doors is their transitional and permanent housing program. These programs provide a safe place to live as you transition into society. While living here, you’ll have access to counseling and support services through the resource center, as well as educational materials related to criminal justice issues, addiction recovery, and mental health topics.
There’s also a transitional housing program for justice involved women who have children in their care. In the three years since this women’s program began, over 300 women have been supported through this organization.
The Open Doors Resource Center serves as a hub where you can receive help with tasks needed to establish your independence. For example, you can come here to connect with a peer recovery coach and begin benefiting from their employment program.
You’ll also find staff members who can help you sign up for housing services, renew your driver’s license, and obtain a state ID, birth certificate, or Social Security card. There’s also a computer lab and phones available for use.
