About Oxford House – Lusher Road – St. Louis
Before closing, Oxford House – Lusher Road was a sober living home for adult men located in Saint Louis, Missouri. This location is no longer open, but it provided a supportive, structured environment for newly sober men to slowly acclimatise to the responsibilities and challenges of independent, drug-free living.
Oxford Houses are self-supporting, substance-free homes for men or women. They require residents to pay rent, partake in house-keeping activities, and stay involved with some form of sobriety group meetings. This setup teaches responsibility and gives you a safe, understanding environment to grow in.
Something really cool about Oxford Houses is that many residents have been open to participating in academic studies. This means there’s a ton of research on the (typically very positive) impact this sort of setup can have on one’s sobriety journey.
One of the most interesting impacts has to do with co-occurring disorders. Many residents of Oxford Houses live with co-occurring mental health disorders. Researchers have found that the Oxford House setup helped with mental health disorders, on top of helping with maintaining sobriety.
