About Renewal – Pittsburgh
Renewal is a non-profit organization in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania that provides drug and alcohol treatment. Their initial focus was helping formerly incarcerated individuals transition back to society as responsible citizens through providing housing, employment opportunities and addiction treatment. Now, they provide addiction recovery services to both formerly incarcerated and non-incarcerated individuals. They provide residential and outpatient treatment for men and women.
Some of the services available to help clients successfully recover include drug court services, whole-family programming and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Renewal has been recognized for meeting performance-based standards for its reintegration services through their accreditation from the American Correctional Association.
Their approach to treating substance abuse involves examining the client’s destructive behaviors and why they do them. They start off by helping clients eliminate their environmental triggers and develop impulse behavior control. The primary therapeutic approach utilized at Renewal is cognitive behavioral therapy.
Cognitive behavioral therapy guides patients to recognize and change the distorted thoughts that encourage their substance abuse. Patients will also learn about coping skills that they can use to prevent relapse.
The facility provides both individual and group counseling that focuses on addiction recovery and the factors that cause addiction. Case managers are available to help clients get access to resources and services to address their specific issues and needs. A case manager’s goal is for patients to be able to have a healthy life that they can manage independently.
Patients will participate in the life skills program within the first two weeks of beginning their recovery at Renewal. The life skills program focuses on preparing individuals for employment by developing marketable skills, identifying ideal job matches and maintaining steady employment.
