About Rivendell Behavioral Health Services of Kentucky – Bowling Green

Located in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Rivendell Behavioral Health Hospital treats substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. They offer inpatient and outpatient programs for children, adolescents and adults. The children’s programs are for mental health only while the adolescent and adult programs focus on substance use and/or co-occurring mental health disorders. The facility accepts most commercial insurance including TRICARE. They also accept Medicaid and Medicare.

The adolescent inpatient program is a psychiatric program for teens in crisis. This includes suicidal thoughts, inappropriate sexual behavior, depression, runaway behavior, thoughts of hurting other people, mood swings and substance use. After a psychiatric assessment, therapists work with your teen to identify the underlying issues leading to the problematic behavior.

Therapists use dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), individual and group therapy to teach teens the coping skills they need to avoid negative behaviors. Teens work with a nurse, psychiatrist, dietician, and other health professionals while in the program.

The facility offers inpatient, medical detox for adults 18 and up. You’ll have a private room for detox with a nurse monitoring you around the clock. You’ll have medication to assist you through the most uncomfortable symptoms of withdrawal.

When you’re through detox, you’ll see a psychiatrist to determine if a co-occurring mental health disorder is contributing to your substance use. Co-occurring disorders can include depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. If necessary, the psychiatrist will prescribe medications to help stabilize your mental health. The length of the inpatient program varies depending on the individual. After your inpatient stay, you can move to the partial hospitalization program (PHP) for further support.

The PHP meets Monday through Friday with therapy beginning at 8:30 a.m. You’ll have lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and then meet for more therapy. Most people stay in the PHP for about a month but that varies based on individual needs.

There’s also an intensive outpatient program (IOP) for adults with substance use disorder who don’t need inpatient treatment but need more than regular counseling. The IOP is a Monday through Friday program. You’ll have therapy from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Clients typically stay in this program for six to eight weeks.

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
