St. Clair County Community Mental Health is located in Port Huron, Michigan, It’s a public health provider and a direct outpatient mental health and addiction treatment center. They use assertive community treatment, ACT as their way of providing comprehensive help for people diagnosed with severe mental illness or co occuring disorders like substance use or addiction.
They have a complete team with training in substance abuse treatment, psychiatry, social work, nursing and employment. They hope to integrate all of these services so that you get the best treatment for your personal needs without having to visit several different departments or locations.
With this program, their teams are available for you as long as you need them and while the further into recovery you get the less they may be in contact, they can be there if and when you need them at any time.
One unique aspect of this outpatient treatment center is they have Creative Arts Therapy which utilizes art, drama and writing classes to break down stigmas surrounding substance use and addiction and can help with recovery.
Another unique part of the treatment you can get here is the InSHAPE program which provides you with a health mentor. Your mentor will teach you how to exercise properly and answer any questions you might have. You’ll also have a registered dietician to give you advice on nutrition.
They also have a specific program designed to help veterans access treatment and navigate their way through the VA healthcare system which isn’t always an easy task. You’ll have a peer veteran walk you through the system to enroll in mental health services and your benefits program plus help you with accessing community resources, for healthcare, housing and employment.
