Sheppard Pratt’s Psychiatric Rehabilitation Day Program – Lanham, in Lanham, Maryland, provides full support for adults, young adults and older adults with serious mental illness. In their CARF-accredited Program, independent living skills are enhanced through a structured day program. Participants return home each evening to practice the skills they learn in a familiar home environment. Sheppard Pratt accepts Medicaid, Medicare and some major private insurance companies.

Their day program focuses on individualized assessment, rehabilitation planning and evidence-based intervention to facilitate recovery. Core services include self-monitoring mental and physical health, substance abuse awareness and support, request-based monitoring of self-administered medication and psychoeducation to support understanding and management of mental health.

That means participants work on activities to develop coping strategies, social skills and skills for independent living. Since mental health and physical health often go hand in hand the program also features integrated care. The program’s goal is to help individuals achieve more independence and a better quality of life by working on these areas. Services focus on mental and physical health concerns such as substance use, chronic illness management and smoking cessation. Independent living supports can include a focus on vocational skills, housing assistance and socialization. Psychiatric support is available in the form of individual and group counseling.

Their day program also includes specialized services for young adults. Clients ages 18 to 25 can participate in this treatment, which offers structured daily sessions. Group sessions offer a similar focus as the adult program, but treatment is tailored to clients in this stage of life and at this stage of cognitive development.
