About Southern Maine Women’s Reentry Center – Windham
Southern Maine Women’s Reentry Center is a minimum security and pre-release facility located in Windham, Maine. They provide treatment and housing to women who have less than five years to serve on their prison sentence. There may be as many as 100 women here at a time.
The therapy here is usually offered in a group session. However, you may have some individual counseling. They will teach you how to be more self-aware when you are around other people.
You will be evaluated for your chances of relapsing. You will be taught coping mechanisms that will help you avoid a relapse. You will also learn about the things that triggered your substance use and coping mechanisms for dealing with them.
Your substance use treatment will include several different types of behavioral therapy. This treatment method teaches you to think differently in order to change destructive behavior. People who have been incarcerated for a while often forget basic skills like balancing a budget, so they will also teach you how to manage your money.
The more options you have, the less likely you are to re-offend. Therefore, they offer the opportunity to take college and night school classes in the community. If you have not received a high school diploma, they can help you get your GED.
Most people who have been convicted of a crime are expected to serve a certain number of hours of community service. This facility offers you the opportunity to fulfill these hours. You may maintain the grounds of the facility or train therapy dogs. You will have a regular job during your stay. In some cases, you may work in the community instead of on the grounds.
