About STEPS – Apopka
Specialized Treatment, Education, and Prevention Services is abbreviated as STEPS. It’s a private nonprofit, community based organization that offers comprehensive substance use treatment and education services for adults in Apopka, Florida. They promote a person centered approach to recovery and allow for the autonomy of each client’s personal recovery journey. Their programs include medication assisted treatment, women’s-only residential treatment, partial hospitalization and general outpatient programming, and aftercare services. Specialized support is available for pregnant, postpartum, and mothering women, intravenous drug users, and clients with co-occurring conditions.
Their medication assisted treatment helps clients detox from alcohol, opioids, and other substances with the help of medication, combined with medical, psychiatric, and behavioral counseling. As needed, providers use FDA-approved addiction medications to improve client comfort, minimize cravings, and lessen relapse risk. Combining meds with mental health treatment creates a greater chance of success for long term abstinence.
Their residential treatment is a women’s program that uses evidence based practices to treat addiction and co-occurring disorders. In the case that a woman is pregnant and gives birth while in treatment, the infant will remain with the mother while she receives treatment. Small children will also remain with their mothers. Staying at the facility where treatment is held allows for 24/7 care and monitoring during the initial stages of treatment. The duration of treatment can be discussed with the treatment team and will reflect what is needed to create stabilization and confidence prior to leaving the facility.
Their PHP treatment is one step down in intensity from residential treatment. While it’s still highly structured, you’ll get to return home in the evening. Evidence based services such as cognitive behavioral group therapy, network therapy, individual counseling, motivational interviewing, and family intervention will be administered throughout the program. If a mother has a baby or small child, the baby or child will remain with the mother during treatment. The duration and frequency of treatment can be discussed with the treatment team.
A step down from partial hospitalization, outpatient treatment services meet less frequently and are considered to be an example of greater autonomy and self-reliance than the earlier stages of treatment. The duration of treatment depends on each person’s needs and goals.
STEPS is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). They’re in-network with most commercial insurance providers. Check your coverage with your individual provider as out of network benefits can vary.
