About Trails Carolina – Lake Toxaway
Trails Carolina is a substance abuse and behavioral health treatment program in Lake Toxaway, North Carolina, near the banks of the West Fork French Broad River. They use a unique wilderness therapy program to help clients recover and curb harmful behaviors. They serve teenaged clients.
The wilderness therapy program combines traditional individual and group therapy with outdoor experiential activities in a peer support environment. All activities are overseen by residential staff, professional guides, and therapists, and families are encouraged to participate in the recovery process. Services offered include:
An inpatient program is one where clients reside at the facility for the course of treatment. This allows staff to monitor clients around the clock in a safe, secure environment. Clients follow a daily schedule of therapeutic activities, including individual and group therapy.
Trails Carolina also utilizes wilderness therapy, known as the adventure wilderness program. This is a form of experiential therapy where clients connect with nature through guided outdoor activities. When combined with traditional talk therapy, wilderness therapy helps clients recover from harmful behaviors, develop self confidence, and cultivate a renewed sense of self worth.
Trails Carolina also has an academic program to support clients in treatment. These are accredited courses.
Trails Carolina is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, Cognia, and the Outdoor Behavioral Health Council.
