About UM Ypsilanti Health Center – Ypsilanti
The University of Michigan Ypsilanti Health Center is a facility that offers preventative health and mental health services in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Their behavioral clinic treats adolescents with psychiatric problems such as anxiety and depression, which may help with recovering from addiction. Adolescent clients who need more targeted addiction care can be referred to the University of Michigan addiction treatment services.
Talk therapy may not always be enough to treat your loved one’s mental illness. Ypsilanti Health Center has a collaborative care psychiatric clinic where adolescents can be evaluated to determine appropriate medication options they can be prescribed. Medications such as antidepressants can manage mental health symptoms so adolescents are less likely to use unhealthy coping mechanisms such as substance use.
When your loved one is referred to the University of Michigan Addiction Treatment Services, they can start receiving addiction treatment in the adolescent recovery group. The skill based group focuses on topics such as building and maintaining wellness, psychoeducation and relapse prevention.
An additional group available at this location is the Young Adult Discovery Group. It focuses on helping adolescents gain insight into their behavioral choices and recognize the consequences of addiction. The therapeutic approach the counselor will primarily use is motivational interviewing.
The Ypsilanti Health Center is about 20 minutes outside of Ann Arbor, Michigan. The college town has multiple activities that teens and their families can enjoy, such as looking at flowers at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens or learning about animals at The Creature Conservancy.
