United Counseling Service in Bennington, Vermont, offers outpatient treatment for those dealing with substance use disorder and/or mental health challenges. Their services include case management, employee assistance programs, medication assisted treatment (MAT), and individual, family and group counseling.

The clinic’s intensive outpatient program (IOP) requires a minimum of three hours of treatment per day totalling nine hours per week. The program uses a variety of modalities to work with clients. In addition to therapy their staff members will work with you using methods such as the Collaborative Network Approach (CNA) and tools like Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAPs). Clients receiving mental health services will also have access to equine assisted therapy and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.

As part of your recovery the staff will work with you to set and achieve goals that will lead to a more positive life. They will also offer education on the connection between IV drug usage and certain illnesses. The clinic also uses an app called eRecovery Connections that gives you 24/7 access to peer support specialists.

United Counseling Service also has a free and anonymous syringe exchange program that is open for walk-ins on Mondays from 12 to 3, with mobile delivery available on Fridays from 12 to 3. They also offer several resources for harm reduction such as fentanyl test strips and Narcan. The clinic also maintains strong relationships with the community and works with several self-help organizations like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA) and AIDS Project of Southern Vermont.
