About United Indian Health Services – The Potawot Health Village – Arcata
The Potawot Health Village is part of the United Indian Health Services network. They’re located in Arcata, California. It’s a notable option for any Native American looking to seek mental health support and addiction treatment. To stay connected to their roots, United Indian Health Services focuses on a holistic approach to support anyone who is seeking outpatient (OP) care. I appreciate that this facility still does offer modern medicinal support for those who are detoxing and seeking out mental health support or therapy, while also leaning on traditional healing methods.
After I spent some time looking into United Indian Health services, it’s clear they truly care about supporting Native American families and Native American traditions. There’s a medicine wheel, sweat huts, and other traditional practices. They have individual, family, and group counseling and youth services. There’s also an option for the 12 Steps. If you have acute symptoms, they can refer you to a residential treatment center.
United Indian Health Services currently accepts Medicare, Medicaid, Tribal funds and private insurance. And while I do wish that United Indian Health Services would provide inpatient options, I think it’s awesome that this facility does provide support in a lot of other areas. For example, with United Indian Health Services, you can seek nutritional help, dental and vision help, or prenatal/postnatal help. Personally, I think the best part of United Indian Health Services is that they offer transportation services for anyone living close by.
One day, I hope there’s more inpatient and dedicated support for those seeking more for their journey to recovery. But until then, the staff at United Indian Health Services truly cares about their roots and their community.
