About UT Physicians Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic – Houston
UT Physicians Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic is located on East Road in Houston, Texas. The outpatient clinic offers substance use and co-occurring disorder treatment for adults. One of the unique aspects of this program is the specialists’ attention to local culture and the resources available for supporting patients in their addiction recovery. The physicians also work as full time faculty at the McGovern Medical School and are involved in research and teaching. If a resident or medical student is involved in your care, it will be in conjunction with a faculty physician.
The facility is in network with many insurance plans. They take traditional Medicare, Medicare Supplement, and Medicare Advantage with some requirements based on your type of plan. They also accept Texas Medicaid and some managed Medicaid HMO plans.
This facility treats many types of addictions, including alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs and prescription medications. They use an individualized treatment approach depending on your needs and the type of substances you’ve been using.
They also approach recovery by encouraging you to develop a personal support network. This should include peers, health professionals, family and friends. The addiction recovery program focuses on your overall well being and functioning while mitigating your risks of harm or relapse.
To begin, you’ll receive a comprehensive evaluation that helps in the development of your custom treatment plan. They offer medication assisted treatment (MAT) if appropriate. For alcohol use disorder, they offer Campral, Antabuse and Vivitrol. MAT for heroin and prescription opiate addiction includes Sublocade and Suboxone. If you also have a smoking addiction, they offer Chantix, Zyban and nicotine replacements such as gum, patches and lozenges.
Addiction treatment includes individual counseling with professional licensed therapists. Therapy is important for addressing any co-occurring mental health disorders such as depression. If you have severe depression resistant to treatment, you may qualify for transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), a pioneering treatment that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate specific neurons in the brain. TMS is an FDA approved, noninvasive treatment with no systemic side effects. TMS is an outpatient treatment given daily for several weeks. You’ll be alert and awake during your session.
