About Wernle Youth & Family Treatment Center – Richmond
Located in Richmond, Indiana is the Wernle Youth & Family Treatment Center. This was a treatment center that worked with children who were struggling with their behavioral health and were in need of specialized care that was developmentally appropriate, robust and focused on helping them with essential life skills. Along with mental health support, they offered services if youth had a substance use struggle.
The organization has served individuals throughout the region for over 145 years. Unfortunately, their operations are temporarily suspended as they undergo a period of transition.
When they were providing services to the community, children found supportive residential care in the spacious 100 acre campus. This state of the art campus features a variety of amenities including a basketball court, football field, and comfortable community spaces.
There were also many specialized therapeutic programs including pottery, music therapy, and other creative outlets for children to explore.
Several buildings make up this location including their main residential hall and their new Hawk Center. These buildings offered a welcoming atmosphere and children felt respected and heard as they moved through their treatment program.
Specialized recovery programs were created for children, and there were programs designed specifically for kids who have gone through traumatic experiences including sexual abuse. Trauma informed care guided the evidence based practices, helping children feel supported regardless of their struggles.
Children would have also gotten connected to various churches within the community. Through church programs, you would have been encouraged to focus on this spiritual side of your recovery, while working towards a healthy life.
Despite pausing their operations for now, they’ll continue to serve the community in the near future with more program offerings and specialized care for the wide range of substance use and mental health struggles children and adolescents face today.
