Oakwood Home for Women is a residence for women who are recovering from the illness of alcoholism and substance abuse. These are women who have demonstrated a sincere desire to restore their lives to productive and responsible endeavors. Oakwood is a temporary home which provides an atmosphere of understanding and help from other residents, interested volunteers, and persons who have succeeded in restoring their lives to order. The residents are learning to practice the twelve steps of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Oakwood Home for Women is housing, not treatment. A recovery residence provides a stable, alcohol- and drug-free place to live alongside other people in recovery, with the peer accountability and daily structure that research consistently links to better outcomes. Unless a home is a NARR Level IV setting or is separately licensed, it does not provide therapy, detoxification, medication management or medical supervision on site. Residents who need clinical care attend an independently licensed program of their own choosing.
