The intensive outpatient program (IOP) is a highly structured addiction treatment program that allows for a treatment-work-life balance. The program meets three to five days a week. It is most appropriate for those who do not need residential inpatient treatment, but who still need more support than traditional outpatient treatment. Anchor Hospital’s Intensive Outpatient program highlights family involvement as a critical component for this treatment plan’s success.
The outpatient program at Anchor Hospital includes 12 Step meetings, psychotherapy, coping skills, expressive therapy, relapse prevention, family sessions, and physician lectures. Shame, trauma, and grief are common group topics. All treatment plans are individualized to consider history, the addiction challenges, and what will be needed to maintain recovery upon graduation. The program can be participated in during daytime or evening hours to accommodate for a variety of schedule needs.
Ensuring the family unit understands the complexity of addiction is important. Family programming helps educate the family and provides opportunities for support. In some cases family therapy may be appropriate or even necessary for the family dynamic to heal and to support the person struggling with addiction.
Group therapy involves treatment through the process of connecting in a group setting to discuss and work through mental, emotional, and physical issues. There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more.
