About Alaska Dream Center – Palmer
You’ll find the nonprofit Alaska Dream Center in Palmer, Alaska. This is a substance use disorder and co-occurring disorder treatment center that uses a faith based and holistic approach. They treat adults up to age 59 and offer special services for Indigenous people, homeless individuals and young adults.
This location offers a nine month residential program for men and a transitional living home for women. Those who complete the residential program can participate in a three month life skills program so that they’ll have additional preparation for sober living. Both programs include Biblical study and church attendance as part of recovery.
The setting may not seem important, but the environment you are in can impact your recovery journey. Here you can find your center among natural beauty far from city hustle and bustle.
Palmer is a small town that captures all of the beauty Alaska has to offer. You’ll find yourself nestled amongst towering trees and snow-capped mountains. The rural community is secluded, laying the ground for a peaceful recovery experience.
A big part of what they do here looks beyond coping skills. Staff understand that one of the pillars of maintaining sobriety in recovery is independent living, and achieving that means having and holding a job. In addition to the Biblical curriculum and counseling, you’ll be exposed to work therapy.
Work therapy focuses on developing vocational skills that will make you more appealing to employers. When combined with the work skills training offered at this location, it goes a long way to building a foundation for post treatment independent living.
Relapse prevention uses anchors that help draw you back to your center when times are tough. Friends and family play vital roles in maintaining sobriety, but at this location, you’ll learn how you can also fall back on your faith during these times for additional support.
The Biblical curriculum focuses on strengthening your Biblical values and cultivating a closer relationship with Christ. One review said Christ was “the core of this program.” You can expect this treatment program to connect your physical and mental health back to your spiritual well being.
