About Alco Halfway House – Jacksonville
Alco Halfway House is a nonprofit alcohol and drug rehab facility that has served the Jacksonville, Florida, community since 1967. Although it’s not as famous as Miami or Orlando, Jacksonville is the state’s most populous city by far. The seaside metropolis is home to miles of scenic beaches and a vast public park system, offering an inviting “getaway” setting for recovery, with access to big-city amenities. This center, located on Hubbard Street, is staffed by people who have personally recovered from substance use and are dedicated to helping others. They offer residential treatment for men and women.
Alco Halfway House provides a secure, stable, and supportive environment in which to start recovery. Once you’re admitted you’ll receive a one to two hour consultation then enter dormitory housing. Here you’ll receive constant supervision and round the clock support from trained professionals. You’ll attend individual counseling sessions and group meetings, where you’ll start to address the cause of your addiction and foster relationships with your housemates.
When you and your care team decide you’re ready you can transition to three-quarters housing. This type of transitional housing is still highly supervised, and you’ll need to continue attending regular group meetings. However, it provides more autonomy. This way you can start to get a feel for what it will be like living as an independent, healthy person, while still having a safety net.
The organization aims to keep their fees more affordable than for-profit addiction treatment facilities. In addition to housing, support groups and counseling, their weekly fees include job readiness coaching, meals, drug testing, laundry facilities and cable TV.
