About Alcohol and Drug Council of Tompkins County – Ithaca
The Alcohol and Drug Council of Tompkins County (ADC) is a private, nonprofit drug and alcohol rehab provider in the Finger Lakes region of New York state. Their East Green Street location in downtown Ithaca offers general outpatient care for teens and adults. The Council views addiction as a treatable disease with physical and mental components. They take an integrated, evidence based, and patient centered approach and aim to treat people with compassion and respect.
Everyone who seeks help from the Council first receives an assessment to determine what, if any, services might benefit them most. If the clinician believes the organization can help you, they’ll recommend a treatment plan customized to your specific needs. They know every person and recovery journey is unique and bear that in mind at every stage.
If you’re grappling with opioid use disorder or alcohol use disorder a clinician may recommend Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT). This evidence based treatment involves using medications that can help curb cravings, diminish physical withdrawal symptoms, and lower the risk of relapse. It can also help restore brain circuitry affected by addiction.
Whether or not you use MAT you will be given evidence based therapy.
One unique thing about the Council’s approach is that there are a wide variety of groups therapy options, each with a different focus. You can attend a Seeking Safety group if you’ve faced trauma, a mindful recovery group, and adolescents have their own age specific group.
Additionally, you can connect with Certified Recovery Peer Advocates. Peer Advocates can help in various ways. You can talk to them about your struggles and ask them to accompany you to court or other important appointments for moral support. They can also help you implement healthy coping strategies and celebrate your accomplishments.
