About Alternative Centre for Behavioral Health – El Paso
The Alternative Centre for Behavioral Health was a Joint Commission accredited mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) treatment center. The center is now closed but it was located at 7760 Alabama Street in El Paso, Texas, and offered treatment services for adults and adolescents. This was an outpatient treatment facility open Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The adult services for clients 18 and over offered specialty programming for those dealing with substance use and co occurring mental health disorders. The program included comprehensive individualized treatment plans the client helped develop.
While in the program, clients received treatment with little disruption to their lives due to the flexible hours. Professional therapists facilitated group therapy and met with clients for individual therapy. Group therapy included education and helped clients improve their communication, lifestyle, and coping skills.
The center provided adolescent services for teens 13-18. The program focused on helping teens make positive choices, like avoiding drugs and alcohol and staying in school. Teens participated in group and individual therapy.
One of the services offered in addition to chemical dependency and mental health treatment, was the family violence program. Based on the Anderson & Anderson Model of Domestic Violence Intervention, the program taught attendees better ways to interact without using power and control.
The program met the requirements for court mandated treatment and was offered in English and Spanish. They had gender specific groups where clients learned to identify triggers and cope with situations before they turned violent or abusive.
The center had a specialized women’s program to give women a safe space to seek help and address their unique issues. The program focused on issues of self esteem, depression, eating disorders, postpartum depression, self mutilation, and other mental health challenges.
They proudly served families of active duty military and Veterans and the special circumstances they dealt with. Some of the issues they focused on included the stressors of multiple relocations, deployment, and redeployment.
