About Appling Healthcare – Baxley
Appling Healthcare is a nonprofit acute care hospital with 34 beds. The hospital is located t in Baxley, Georgia. They offer primary care services, general surgery, and emergency services. Although they don’t have a dedicated unit for substance use disorder (SUD) treatment, they do provide mental health treatment in the 30 bed behavioral senior care unit at the hospital. They also provide emergency care for individuals in crisis from substance related incidents. The hospital accepts insurance from most major providers and many federal and state programs, such as Medicare and Medicaid.
Baxley is a small town about 85 miles north of beautiful Jekyll Island. The town has a population of about 5,000 and is experiencing a revitalization. Some of the older buildings are undergoing renovations complete with beautiful mural art pieces.
Although the town is small, there are a growing number of drug related and overdose emergency calls. The first responders have offered special presentations to discuss SUD in the community in which they’ve covered key topics such as prescription drug abuse and overdose reversal medications such as Narcan OTC.
The emergency department at the hospital is a level IV trauma center, one of only six in the state. The hospital is the recipient of the American Heart Association’s Stroke Gold Quality Achievement Award.
The hospital offers outpatient mental health therapy for seniors. The treatment helps older adults address emotional issues that occur with aging. They use therapy to assist seniors cope with daily living challenges.
The 30 bed senior facility offers treatment for seniors with various psychiatric illnesses. This is a short term inpatient facility where seniors receive solution focused care.
