For over 25 years, In Balance Counseling in Tucson, Arizona, has specialized in offering accredited intensive outpatient (IOP) services for adults struggling with substance abuse, and concurrent mental health issues. They accept a variety of insurance plans, as well as self-pay options.
The center’s IOP offers a flexible addiction treatment option for individuals struggling with substance misuse who also need to continue working or studying full-time alongside recovery.
With this support of highly-trained therapists, IOP groups meet for three hour sessions, three times per week. This amounts to around nine hours of treatment each week for 30 sessions or around 10 weeks. This of course varies depending on the severity of clients’ situations, with check-ins conducted at the end of this 10-week period to assess whether further support is needed.
Within IOP group sessions, clients are encouraged to examine their choices in the past and present, and the emotions and feelings that lead them to seek out substances to cope. In the safe space these groups provide, participants can share their challenges and wins with peers, and hold one another accountable as they progress through recovery together.
Integrated as part of IOP is a sense of holistic care, which pays attention to clients’ bodies and minds through a variety of treatment methods and activities. For example, mediational hikes, T’ai Chi, and yoga feature as a means of reconnecting clients’ with their physical being, and rooting them back into their bodies in a mindful, intentional way.
In addition, 12-step teachings are also interwoven in the program, alongside experiential therapies like art therapy, equine therapy, and other options. Clients are also encouraged to attend various support groups like AA, NA, and Al-Anon.
