About Austen Riggs Center – Stockbridge
Austen Riggs Center is a psychiatric residential treatment facility in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. The staff is trained to treat mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder. The facility also provides services for those who have a co-occurring substance use disorder.
While the facility doesn’t provide treatment for individuals who have an active substance use disorder, they do assist patients who have co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. The counselors will focus on helping clients see the consequences of substance use to themselves, their family, friends and the community.
You’ll participate in intensive psychotherapy four times a week to address your mental illness. Your counselor will guide you into understanding what influences your decision making and how you can choose positive new behaviors.
In addition to talk therapy, the facility can use psychopharmacology to help manage your mental illness symptoms. When your mental health is more manageable, you should feel less need to use substances. It’s important to note that clients who relapse into active substance use will be discharged and referred to addiction treatment before continuing services at Austen Riggs Center.
