About Aware – Panama City
AWARE stands for A Woman’s Addiction Recovery Effort. It’s part of the greater Chemical Addictions Recovery Effort (CARE) program in Panama City, Florida. This program provides residential addiction treatment services for adult women. They also serve as a halfway house for women who need a sober place to stay before reintegrating into society.
This team knows that women face certain challenges when it comes to addiction recovery. For example, they might experience social stigmas or judgments that can make it hard for them to come forward and acknowledge they have a problem. This residential treatment center lets them heal and find the help they need in a comfortable, therapeutic environment. It includes 15 residential beds and 15 halfway house beds. There’s also a special Mother Infant Program that allows new moms to keep their babies with them while they live on site and attend treatment.
While living here, the women will participate in individual and group counseling sessions to help them open up about their addictions, bond with others, and learn helpful life skills for recovery. The counselors are trained in evidence based approaches that encourage conversation, growth, and healing. Residential clients must stay in the program for at least eight weeks. If they plan to transition into the halfway house program, they can stay an extra three months. Women in the Mother Infant Program usually stay between six months and a year.
One cool part about this facility is that the rooms are divided into 11 different suites, and each suite is designed around a certain country, such as China, France, or India. I can see how this unique feature helps residents connect with each other and find common ground.
One former client said they were happily surprised at how well they were treated during their time at AWARE. They mentioned that the staff members were kind and accommodating, though another client mentioned communication issues with the director.
