About Beth Israel’s Methadone Maintenance Treatment Program – Clinics 6 and 7 – New York

Mount Sinai Outpatient Methadone Maintenance Treatment Program is located in Harlem, in upper Manhattan, New York. The clinic provides an outpatient methadone maintenance treatment program that meets the certification requirements of the New York State Department of Health. The clinic provides ongoing methadone dispensation after you’ve been through a medication assisted treatment (MAT) initiation process. The clinic is a nonprofit organization and only provides this service if you are a client of Mount Sinai. You must provide proof of health insurance and a photo ID.

This clinic doesn’t start people on a new MAT regimen, but they offer ongoing medication treatment and substance use counseling. An outpatient MMT requires medical supervision, including urine analysis for drug testing and other lab tests and physical examinations to ensure you remain drug free. The program is required to maintain your medical history and methadone dosage and prescribe counseling in a treatment plan in most cases. An MMT is a proven treatment program when you’re battling an opioid addiction, including drugs like heroin, oxycodone, fentanyl, or morphine.

Methadone is a long acting opioid agonist which activates your brain’s opioid receptors without producing the euphoria that’s associated with opioid misuse. The drug helps reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings. Using this type of controlled approach helps provide stabilization for your physical and psychological health and allows you to lay the foundation for a substance free life by engaging in therapy, counseling, and other supportive services.

A methadone maintenance treatment program is effective in reducing the risk of relapse and transmission of infectious diseases like HIV or hepatitis C that are often associated with intravenous drug use. You can remain on methadone for several months or years depending on your recovery. The long term goal is that you move into a lifestyle that’s truly substance free and wean off the medication support.

Programs

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
