About BRC – New York
BRC stands for The Bowery Residents’ Committee. They started in 1971 as an outreach and substance abuse treatment center that offers a variety of services to men and women in the Bowery, a local area in New York City, New York. They offer a wide range of services, including two addiction treatment programs that help meet the needs of over 500 men and women each year. They also provide mental health services, with a focus on men and women who are persistently mentally ill and who have co-occurring substance abuse problems.
Outreach teams work 24/7 in the subways and streets to help the homeless. They have 19 transitional housing programs and permanent housing for New Yorkers with a history of homelessness.
When you’re part of the substance abuse treatment services, you also have access to a workforce development program to overcome obstacles to employment and help you effectively find a job. This also includes mental health initiatives for folks with co-occurring conditions.
Special services are available for older adults and some services are being adapted to provide help for children and families. They offer care using a holistic, client-centered, comprehensive approach using evidence and need space programs. As a non-profit organization, they accept donations to help pay for these services, and they don’t turn away people who cannot pay.
