About Broward City Elderly and Veterans Services – Oakland Park
The Broward County Elderly and Veterans Services Division is located in Oakland Park, Florida. This county funded agency provides mental health and social services to persons 55 and older on an outpatient basis. Veteran services are available to those 18 and older who have been honorably discharged from military service. Programs are conducted in several languages including Spanish, Italian, French, Creole, Portuguese, Hindi, Urdu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Romanian.
Behavioral health programming here includes in-home assessments, case management and outpatient/peer support. They also offer a program called Community Care for the Elderly that provides in-home services to adults 60 years and older who are at risk for nursing home placement due to functional impairment.
Case management, case aide, homemaking, personal care, respite care, and adult day care are programs available. There is also an emergency response system program that may provide devices.
Their Veterans Services program supports honorably discharged veterans regardless of age or status, as well as family members. Outreach assistance with applying for benefits and claims processing along with case management for referral to other resources is also available.
Alzheimer’s Disease Initiative is funded to provide in-home services to any adults 18 and older with an Alzheimer’s diagnosis or any related disorder. Case management along with in-home care and caregiver training for respite services is available along with all the other community care programs.
They also offer a Program to Encourage Active, Rewarding Lives (PEARLS) initiative that targets adults 60 and older with mild depression and dysthymic disorder treatment. These services encouage problem-solving, behavioral activation and increased activity levels.
Customer Relations and Senior Services case management help adults 60 and older who are not otherwise enrolled in other senior or veteran programs to find resources to get mental and physical health support and resources. These may include housing assistance, emergency financial support and other resources that assist in creating a thriving lifestyle.
