About Burrell Behavioral Health Center – Sigma House – Springfield
Sigma House of Springfield was a drug recovery facility that provided residential treatment services to adults working through a substance use disorder. Supervised detox services were available here and this was a place to turn to if you were ready to take the difficult first step towards addiction recovery.
This was a smaller to medium size facility and was located just outside of a residential community in a Springfield, Missouri suburb. Unfortunately, this facility was shut down after its parent organization was bought by Burrell Behavioral Health. Today, this location serves as a behavioral crisis center.
When the Sigma House was opened, you would have found a very clinical yet somewhat intimate approach to care. As a smaller facility, you would have received individualized and really supportive treatment. You would not have felt like just another patient, rather, you would have gotten to know the staff as there was a community life feel to this facility.
However, many past residents say that the facility didn’t offer as comfortable amenities as you would find in more modern detox centers. Considering this was a state funded program, it’s understandable why this facility took a recovery approach that was more focused on clinical care as opposed to comfort.
The Sigma House sat just west of downtown Springfield and it was near residential communities and commercial shopping spaces. The location made it easier for family members to visit their loved ones because it was in the heart of town, not tucked away in a rural part of the county.
The structure was not overly tight, and you would have had the freedom to move through your daily schedule in a way that allowed you to maintain a sense of independence and control over your life.
