About Camelot – Concord High School – Park Hill
Camelot is a counseling program available at Concord High School in Staten Island, New York. It’s sponsored by the City of New York’s Department of Education to help reduce violence at the high school. They also tackle the many factors that can lead up to violence. This includes mental health issues and drug abuse.
Camelot is pretty neat because students are directly involved. Up to 35 students are selected to act as ambassadors. What they do is write up articles, reach out to other students, and help foster communication so that all students are heard. They’re also paid, which is pretty awesome.
In terms of treatment, Camelot offers general outpatient care for students. This can include family therapy and crisis interventions. They want to reduce truancies and gang violence, stop kids from becoming criminals, help at-risk students, and stop drug addictions that can wreck students’ lives.
They also partner with parents and other community members. That way, students can address co-occurring disorders like depression and alienation. They definitely aim to de-escalate tensions before they erupt into violence at their school.
