About Catholic Charities – Wilmington

Catholic Charities in Wilmington, Delaware, offers the Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor Workshop Series. This promotes professional development and growth by offering an introductory learning experience in substance abuse counseling. This 16 week 48 credit course aims to give students a thorough foundation in every area of addiction treatment.

Every 16 week session includes training on subjects intended to help counselors with pre-treatment, treatment and post-treatment issues in order to enhance results and promote clients’ long term high quality recovery. The course discusses the difficulties encountered in case management, intensive outpatient or inpatient treatment and outpatient treatment settings. Topics covered in class include the assessment process, screening, intake, orientation, the disease of addiction and an overview of treatment models.

They also provide education on cultural competency and counseling, treatment planning and the assessment and treatment of co-occurring disorders. They provide group counseling, individual counseling with a motivational approach and family addiction dynamics exploration. They offer counseling on preventing relapses, case management and documentation, and the function of 12 Step fellowships in the healing process.

Other topics include defense mechanisms, resistance in addiction treatment, crisis intervention, documentation and code of ethics. They also provide instruction in professional development supervision and consultation.

Medicaid and Medicare are among the majority of third party insurance plans that they accept. If you don’t have insurance you can ask for a discounted rate or pay for the course yourself. If you want your rate to be reduced you must be able to produce supporting documentation. Those who otherwise couldn’t afford to finish the program can now more easily manage the fees thanks to this sliding scale. Their clients are safeguarded by HIPAA and other federal confidentiality requirements.

Programs

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
