About CCFCS – Alexander Community Residence – Rochester
Alexander House is a residential substance abuse treatment program operated by Catholic Charities and Family Community Services (CCFCS). This program serves men 18 and older, but women can find a similar program in their Barrington House. They’re located in Rochester, New York, so if you visit you’ll have a chance to take in institutions like the Susan B. Anthony and George Eastman Museums.
Though their mission is rooted in Catholic passion, they serve anyone regardless of their religious background. The Alexander House offers vocational and education while focusing on addiction treatment and skills development.
While the ultimate goal of the residential program is substance use disorder treatment, a component of that is helping you reintegrate with your community. Having purpose and belonging can strengthen relapse prevention efforts. That’s why part of their treatment focuses social, vocational, and educational goals.
The property is ADA-accessible and was part of a recent CCFCS project that included a $2.5-million expansion to add trauma-informed design principles into the layouts of their residential properties.
A big focus of this residential treatment is forming a community with the other men in recovery. While treatment and groups take place in individual and group settings, community building is different. This is about finding others you can relate to and learning from one another.
The shared spaces are designed to cultivate this sense of community. For example, the shared dining room provides plenty of space while maintaining a warm, intimate setting for everyone. The community building you do in treatment will give you ample experience to expand your network once treatment ends.
CCFCS provides step down care through its outpatient treatment programs, too. These continue the focus on addiction as well as other mental health and behavioral concerns, as well as care for those with co-occurring disorders.
They offer a sliding fee scale to make programs more affordable. They also accept some Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance plans.
