About CMR Recovery Residence – Northport
CMR Recovery Residence is a drug and alcohol recovery house located in New York, New York. It is a residential facility that supports adults with substance use disorder as they work on long term recovery. It is a non clinical facility that teaches people life skills that will help them live a sober life.
Although it is not an official AA organization, the house was started with the assistance of Bill W, the founder of AA. It has been around ever since 1942. They follow a basic 12-step program. The length of the stay will depend on you. The place is operated by other people who are in recovery for alcohol and substance use disorder.
The 12 step model begins with your admitting that you are powerless over your addiction. You then surrender yourself to your higher power. The power does not have to be God, but something or someone you consider greater than yourself. You will make amends to those you have hurt because of your addiction. Your last step is helping others in recovery.
The thing I love about CMR is that it is set up just like a regular house. It has a very comfortable feeling. You do not feel like you are in an institution at all. The setting makes sharing uncomfortable facts about yourself and dealing with hard feelings easier.
