About Community Association of Progressive Dominicans – New York
The Community Association of Progressive Dominicans is a nonprofit organization that serves families with a wide range of needs in Upper Manhattan and the Bronx. They’re in New York, New York located in Washington Heights near the 168 Street subway station.
This organization helps with many different aspects of family care and that includes behavioral health and mental health for kids and teens. They’re most known for their youth programs and their outpatient mental health clinic. At the mental health clinic they have individual therapy as well as group therapy and family therapy and even psychiatric care. They can help with addiction and with co occurring mental health conditions.
Their youth program which is called Audubon Youth Program is a popular favorite. The program offers behavioral health care including substance abuse prevention along with prevention for teen pregnancy and tobacco abuse and truancy. It’s for kids ages 5 to 18 and it’s free and confidential.
I think it’s important to note that as this organization was founded to serve the Dominican community they have many bilingual staff. This lets them offer services in English and Spanish. This allows them to offer their services to a wider community and removes barriers to care.
While I didn’t find a lot of client feedback about this organization, the feedback I did see was very positive. Parents say that their kids enjoy the program and that the staff here seems to genuinely care about the kids although they do say that communication from the staff could be better.
