About Cornerstones of Care – Ozanam Campus – Kansas City
The Ozanam Campus in Kansas City, Missouri is one of two main campus locations for Cornerstones of Care. This is a nonprofit organization that provides a range of different services for children, young adults, and their families. They focus on three areas of care including youth and family support, foster care and adoption, and community wide education. Their goal is to prevent and address issues that threaten the family structure, including substance abuse. Some programs are free, but they accept self pay and private insurance for others.
I like that this facility truly focuses on providing a complete continuum of care. Kids and teens who go through their program can find support for every stage of their life. One program that stands out is their Family Focus Program, which is provided under their youth and family support services. This is a free program designed to help families work through immediate, urgent issues that could threaten to tear them apart. Family members will stay together in a residential facility for a short period of time, then transition to in home support services. Throughout the program, they’ll address their challenges and learn the important skills they need to overcome their issues and remain as one unit.
If clients are dealing with a specialized issue that requires around the clock care and assistance, they can join their On Campus Living Program. This allows anyone between the ages of six and 20 to live on site and receive trauma informed support in lots of different areas, including drug and alcohol addiction. During their time there, they’ll learn life skills to help them overcome their condition and maintain a sober lifestyle.
Former clients who have participated in the services that this facility offers call their experiences transformative and accommodating. They note that they’re proud of the memories they made and the lessons they learned. However, one past client shared a concerning anecdote about how the staff mistreated their child.
