About Crisis & Counseling Centers – Augusta
Crisis & Counseling Centers is an outpatient mental health and addiction treatment center in Augusta, Maine. They have a lot of different counseling and therapy services, but one of them is specialized substance use disorder treatment.
There are two options for treatment here. The first is an intensive outpatient program (IOP), and that’s where a lot of clients start their journey here. In the IOP you’ll have a structured schedule of treatment every week, and it’s mostly group therapy. This level of care is great for people who don’t quite need residential rehab but who need a significant level of support for recovery.
The other option is traditional outpatient therapy. This is usually for the later stages of recovery when you’re more stable in your sobriety. You’ll have individual therapy or group therapy on a regular basis, but it will be less intensive than the IOP.
I think it’s helpful that on top of therapy and counseling they also have medications for addiction recovery. It’s specifically for people with opioid addiction, and they use medications like methadone and buprenorphine to limit your cravings and physical addiction symptoms. I was impressed that this treatment center also has a wide variety of groups for group therapy. They have women’s groups and men’s groups as well as recovery groups and a group for people who are affected by a loved one’s addiction. They have mental health treatment here, too, if you have co-occurring addiction and mental health conditions.
Clients here have mixed feedback, but many of them say that their counselors, and particularly the substance abuse counselors, have been helpful. They say that the counselors are kind and thoughtful, but some clients say that the reception staff and administrative staff aren’t as warm and welcoming as the counselors.
