About Crossnore Communities for Children-WS – Winston-Salem
Crossnore Communities for Children, located on a 212-acre campus just outside downtown Winston-Salem provides a safe and supportive environment for children and families. They serve children ages one to 21 and offer faith based residential care, therapy and a range of programs that help children and families navigate trauma, substance abuse issues and other challenges.
Having been part of the community since 1909, they’ve weathered many changes over the years. They’ve always adapted to meet the evolving needs of children and families. Recognized as a national model for trauma informed care, they take a holistic approach to nurturing each child’s mind, body and spirit.
With on-site medical care, trauma-based therapy, extracurricular activities and educational services, they provide a unique space for children to live, learn, and grow.
Therapists design personalized plans to help children build healthier behaviors and learn better coping strategies. Working closely with parents, case managers and social workers, they ensure children receive consistent, individualized support.
The Seven Challenges is an addiction treatment program that helps teens and young adults work through their substance use issues. Instead of just telling them to stop using drugs the program helps them understand how their choices affect their goals and their future. They learn life skills and look at deeper issues like trauma and mental health to help them overcome the challenges that fuel their substance use.
Therapists also use Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) to help children process difficult experiences by teaching them to understand and manage their emotions. Play therapy gives younger kids a safe, nonverbal outlet to express themselves.
The farm is a special place on the Winston-Salem campus where children and volunteers grow, harvest and explore nature together. Since 2017 the farm has combined hands-on gardening with trauma-informed practices to help kids develop resilience and confidence through outdoor experiences.
Crossnore Communities for Children stands out as a place where compassionate care and innovative programs come together to help children and families heal and grow.
