About Del Nor Recovery and Treatment Center – Buffalo
Del Nor Recovery and Treatment Center operates in conjunction with NAMI New York and the New York State Office of Mental Health. They operate from an office in Buffalo that serves Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Chemung, Erie, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Ontario, Orleans, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Tioga, Tompkins, Wayne, Wyoming and Yates counties in New York. They provide various substance use disorder support groups including one that uses music to move participants toward recovery.
NAMI-NYS is the country’s largest grassroots organization for folks with mental illness. It’s been around since 1979 and has affiliates in every state with over 1,100 local communities.
You’ll find this Buffalo clinic on a leafy street in the Bryant area of Buffalo. It is easily accessible by bus on the routes 20 and 22 and also via the Metro Rail.
Del Nor provides several different support groups. They run groups for alcohol abuse, one for drug abuse and another for general addictions. They run regular evening sessions that are open to anyone in recovery from or struggling with substance use.
I love that they use music as a way to process the pain and negative experiences of addiction. Music can also be a part of holistic healing as clients use it to express the joy, freedom and excitement in their recovery.
Best of all, this program is free. Donations are happily accepted but not required. I like that they accept walk-in participants, but you can also call in advance to register.
Through Save the Michaels, clients can also get access to recovery coaching. This is a peer-driven program with staff who have personal experience working through an addiction. Additionally you can also get family and individual support.
