The Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries in Detroit, Michigan is a nonprofit organization that provides shelter, food, and services to the unhoused. They also offer substance use treatment programs with multiple shelter and treatment locations throughout the city. The Christian Guidance Center on Anglin Street in Detroit is one of their locations that offers detox and substance use treatment for men. It’s an all-male facility. The center is CARF accredited and certified by the State of Michigan.
The facility does take insurance but most services are provided through funding from agencies such as the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC). If you’re not eligible through the regular funding agencies, you can still get treatment. They have special funding for those seeking treatment for opioid addiction or substance use disorder who also have COVID.
The majority of the people seeking treatment at the center come to them through the courts, police, and other agencies. The location on Anglin Street is a detox and substance use treatment facility.
Your treatment starts with detox, overseen by a licensed physician and nurses. You’ll have medication monitoring if necessary as well as medical services. You’ll have a case manager to help you coordinate and navigate your treatments. Treatment includes psychological evaluations and a medical assessment.
You’ll participate in group and individual therapy, and recreation opportunities. They also teach relapse prevention. You can also get help with job training and legal services if appropriate. The program is based on Christian spirituality but participation in the spiritual services is voluntary.
