About Discovery Point Retreat – Ennis
Discovery Point Retreat is a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center located in Ennis, Texas, about 30 miles south of Dallas. They also treat co-occurring disorders at this 44 bed facility. It’s in network with many major insurance companies such as Aetna, Cigna and Blue Cross Blue Shield, though they don’t take Medicaid.
One of the first steps in rehab is detox. This is when you rid your body of the harmful substances you’ve been taking. The center offers medical detox, and you’ll be monitored by medical professionals around the clock.
After you’ve rid your body of toxins, you’ll work on breaking the psychological bonds of addiction. You’ll want to transition to an inpatient or outpatient program depending on your situation. They offer an inpatient treatment program, a partial hospitalization program (PHP), and an intensive outpatient program (IOP).
The inpatient program consists of evidence based therapies to help you get to the root of your addiction. Addiction often goes hand in hand with untreated mental health issues (co-occurring disorders). Examples include depression, anxiety and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). You’ll work with qualified counselors to identify these issues. You’ll do this through individual, group and family therapy. The program uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and trauma therapy.
You’ll also participate in recreational therapy such as team sports, music and art therapy. If you like working with horses, they also have equine therapy. Equine therapy helps you build confidence, social skills, non verbal communication and boundaries.
The retreat center also has a PHP which offers many of the same services and therapies as the inpatient program, but you won’t spend the night. You’ll have individual and group therapy, medication management if appropriate, and aftercare resources. Many people move to the PHP after successfully completing the inpatient program. If you can’t commit to the inpatient program, you can also start with the PHP.
There’s also an IOP. The main focus of the IOP is relapse prevention. You’ll have a little less structure and more independence. You’ll still have individual and group therapy. You’ll work on life skills and dealing with triggers. If you have a job, the IOP gives you the flexibility to work and manage any responsibilities at home while receiving treatment.
