About Eastern Long Island Hospital – Detox – Gold Hill
Timber Ridge Treatment Center is an inpatient behavioral health care center for adolescent males in Gold Hill, North Carolina. They accept clients between the ages of 12 and 17 who are struggling with a range of conditions, including substance abuse. The program lasts around six to eight months, but your stay can be shorter or longer depending on your needs.
Something that I like about this facility is that their programs feel adventurous and fun, not super clinical. The facility is designed to seem like a camp retreat and not a rehab. They take a peer approach to treatment, which means you’ll learn life skills and overcome your challenges by engaging with others, testing your limits, and forming bonds with your fellow residents.
Some of the on site activities you can participate in include hiking, canoeing, and backpacking. When you’re not out exploring, you’ll attend individual and family counseling sessions to help you understand and work through your condition. If you’re facing a co-occurring drug or alcohol addiction, they offer a special 12 Step program to help you reach recovery.
Another special feature of this facility is their on campus learning program, which is called the Uwharrie Learning Center. They offer a hands on approach to learning and will make sure you don’t fall behind on your schoolwork. If you need individual tutoring that’s available as well.
A few former clients said they absolutely loved their time in this program and benefited so much from the things they learned. However, others report difficult working conditions for the residents and some negative interactions with the staff.
